  • Questions for your potential buyers

What time frame are you looking to purchase a new home?
Ask this casually, as what you are really after is if they are just 'lookey lou's' or serious shoppers.

Have you been pre-approved for a loan?
Don't get to this question unless they start getting serious about making an offer.  If they say no, just direct them to the buyers section of our website and we'll get them with lenders that can get them approved very quickly.

Why are you shopping for a new home?
If you can learn about their motivations for looking at your home it may be advantageous to you when it comes time to negotiate a contract.  Again as these questions casually so as not to alarm your buyers and scare them off.

    Questions Buyers May ask You

    Why are you selling?
Your buyers are trying to feel out if there is any leverage they can use because you are moving quickly.  It's usually best to answer this questions with a simple statement about how your housing needs have changed.

How long have you had your home for sale?
Here again your buyer is looking for information, the assumption is that a home that's been on the market longer can be bought for a little bit less.  Since this is easy to find out, just answer truthfully and indicate that you will consider all reasonable offers on your home.

Where did you come up with your price?
Easiest answer here is to say you based it on other similar houses in your neighborhood.  Otherwise they are hoping to get you to think you're asking to much so you'll take less.

Will you take less that what you are asking?
Very few homes sell for their asking price (unless they are underpriced), simply tell them that you will consider any reasonable offer if they are interested in making one.
